Smiles all round

Smiles All Round
Geisha in Japan are a rare sighting. To spot one smiling, is an occurrence that rivals that of a blue moon. But on a Sunday afternoon in Kyoto, it seems that sometimes even they too need a day of rest.

Wandering the streets of Maruyama Park it is hard not to be taken away by the plethora of cherry blossom lining the streets and dusting the air. The colours are bright, the crowd is bustling, so it is no wonder the geisha take the opportunity to enjoy the festivities during their break.

As they walk the streets, heads turn, cameras click, and the girls usually scurry as quickly as they can from destination to destination. However, they are only human, and sometimes to be admired can be a fun thing, so why not smile about it?
